1. My topic is Entertainment of WWI.
2.What I already know: Who? Entertaiment was enjoyed in groups,such as familys or friends. What? To help keep peoples spirits up people would enjoy entertainment. Where? All over the U.S people enjoyed entertainment. When? During 1914-1918. Why? people needed something to keep thier minds off the war. How? The entertainment was given through technology.
3. What I want to know (research questions):
Who? Who was Famous during this time,and what people would listen to certain types of entertaiment? What? What type of entertaiment was given to people and waht type was popular? Where? This happened all over america during the war? When? Was the type of entertainment that was avalible change because of the war? Why? Why was the entertainment so important to the people during this time? How? What type of technology provided the entertainment during this time period? How was the entertaiment affect the war? How did the entertainment help the war?
The war effected the entertainment because factorys needed parts for the war.Entertainment spread news about the war to people of the country,this let the people stay updated.
4.My research strategy: Who? I'll ask Ms.Hornand Ms.Brem for help in locating information.I could ask Ms.Brolan .I could ask the public Librarian. What? Eexpert websites,data bases,encyclopedias,books,textbook. When? During class or outside of class if needed. Where?The CTMS and Public Library,on any other computer for online rescorces. How? I'll use my thesis statement and resaerch questions to figure out what to look for and what to take notes on.

World War I influenced new forms of entertainment; this was caused by new technology. peoples lives change dramatically because of new entertainment.
What happened in World War I helped mold the events of the world for a long time. Technology greatly advanced; it helped people make new weapons, advances in radio, electrical power and other technologies. When technology advanced, the entertainment advanced in America.(IEEE World History Network) During WWI the film industry started to change. The main change was that the films became much longer they went from several minutes to half an hour. This was mostly because the shorter films were (moving pictures)the longer films are closer to what we see today with only differences in technology. Small theaters called (Nickelodeons) grew larger and the prices went up. This was the beginning of the major changes that would eventually bring us the movies we watch today.(Screen films during world war i)
People found all different reasons to have a party. When ever a house was built it was automatically assumed that there would be a party or"racket".A "racket” would include a lot of dancing to "drive home the nails “this would be like a house warming gift.(Entertainment)A long time ago fun and entertainment had to do something with work. Examples of this include "cording frolics, quilting parties, and wood cutting sprees which were frequently held." Parties were often in the fall. Quilting parties were to make warm blankets for the winter. Wood cutting helped people warm their houses in the winter. (Entertainment.)
In WWI dance became a big part of people’s entertainment, places were often built just for dancing. Many cities were famous for the larger and more upscale places to dance. Dances were a chance to listen to live band music and socialize. In 1910 music was made for Dance-Band music (meaning songs for dances would be associated with one another)Around this time dance pavilions were being put up in more public places such as parks. Dancing soon was seen as a sport.(Encyclopedia Of History: DANCE HALLS)During the early 1900's dancing was a large part of entertainment. Dancing for fun was influenced by "Irene and Vernon Castle” they started the trend at the start of WWI.For the richer people it was not considered proper to be at a saloon so they would often have a ballroom in their house. During this time period Movies were still a new thing. Movies were not as nice as the movies we see to day, movies then were silent and black and white. Even though they still were a great source of entertainment.(Mee, Sue)Though movies were made for entertainment women would often go to the movies to see the newest fashions and clothe s that all the stars were wearing.(Mee, Sue)During the War smaller companies grew. The pictures that were current at that time was the "photoplay” Paramount pictures started in 1914, they still make many movies today. Smaller companies are still around but many of them have been bought. Universal Film Companies was also started at this time.(Movies during wwI)
Operas and Broadways shows were often entertainment for the rich or well to do .Oscar Hammerstein in 1846 he built the Harlem opera house. And again in 1909 he built another opera house. The entertainment was very wide at the opera houses and provided great entertainment for the public to enjoy.(The Columbia Encyclopedia)One of the Entertainers that started their fame in America was Josephine Baker.
